An alleged fraudster, Adamu Aminu, was on Friday, arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly impersonating Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, on Facebook, and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public with the fake account.

Forty-five years old Aminu is facing a four-count charge of impersonation, conspiracy, false pretence and fraud. He however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The suspect is said to have created a facebook account using the details of the deputy governor to defraud people.

The court heard from the prosecutor, Rafiu Aroyewun, an Assistant Director, Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the State Ministry of Justice, that the accused committed the offences with others at large in Agege area of Lagos sometime in August.

Aroyewun alleged that one of the victims of Aminu was one Mr. Bright Obed whom he fraudulently obtained N1m from under the pretext of soliciting funds for an orphanage in Agege set up by the Deputy Governor.

The Prosecutor said the offences allegedly committed by Aminu contravened Sections 314 (1), (a), 380 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Subsequently, the accused was admitted to bail by Chief Magistrate Oluyemisi Adelaja, and the case was adjourned until Oct. 16 for hearing.
