That the Former Chief of Army Staff, General Victor Malu (Rtd.) is sick is not news. Back in September 2008, he went into a coma and was rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital where he was placed on life support in the intensive care unit.
Later he was transferred to a hospital in London, and after treatment for stroke, he was discharged from the hospital to his Central London home in April 2009.
In recent time, the COAS during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government has also been in and out of the hospital. At one time, he was in Saudi Arabia also for medical tourism.
Sources say Malu’s condition has spiraled; his speech now slurs, his face droops and his left hand is paralyzed. It was said that the cause of his ill-health were heavy drinking and philandering.
The one-time ECOMOG Commander now lives alone at his Aso Garden Quarters at Maitama in Abuja with only a maid and a driver. His wife and children have all kept their distance from him.
Orijoreporter was told that the Benue-born retired soldier is not keeping his strained relationship with his wife secret. He always shares the story with his visitors. It was said that recently a visitor went to his house and met his wife. And in the middle of their discussion, the ailing retired army general whispered to the visitor that his wife only came to collect money.
it’s so easy for these people to lose prominence after they leave the office, even his family have deserted them.
Gen. Malu, though is dead but was a fine soldier, who did his best during his tenure as Chief of Army Staff of Nigerian Army. May His Soul rest in peace.
@Olufemi, has Victor Malu died? I can’t understand why R.I.P. The man is still a living soul.
