Francis Van-Lare, father-in-law to US-based Nigerian cardiologist, Dr Ikenna Erinne, who killed himself in front of his estranged partner and their children has shared his insight on the devastating incident.
The 36-year-old had shot himself to death, partly in consequence of losing the custody of his children to his estranged partner, a Nigerian too from Southeast.
Van-Lare provided chilling details of the disturbing incident via a post on his Facebook handle where he accused his deceased son-in-law of holding his family hostage over which he would have spent time in jail.
According to Van-Lare, a Nigerian socialite: “While my daughter was involved in a custody battle, I only became aware around 3am Nigerian time last Monday that the deceased held her and her children at gunpoint for three hours after losing the case.
“The nanny managed to escape and called the police, and upon their arrival, he shot himself.”
The narrative suggests that Erinne was facing three counts of kidnapping with a deadly weapon, each carrying a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
“I guess he decided to kill himself instead of facing the charges,” he added.
