The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned a 33-year-old, William Ime, before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court for beating his 10-year-old daughter, Janet to death.
The accused, who lives at Oko Ado Village, Ajah, on Lagos-Epe Expressway, is facing a charge of murder. He allegedly committed the offence on June 29 at his residence where out of frustration, mercilessly trounced his daughter and inflicted fatal internal injuries on her.
The prosecutor ASP Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the child died from the injuries she sustained.
He said: “He hit her several times and she was confirmed dead from internal injuries.
“The accused was arrested following a complaint by members of his family and eyewitnesses.’’
Anyanwu said the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
After listening to the prosecutor, the Magistrate, Mrs. Yewande Aje-Afunwa ordered that the accused should remain behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case has been adjourned to Nov.14.
