The Federal Government said it would progess with the implementation of the tax laws despite the controversy surrounding its legality stemming from allegation that parts of the privisions were doctored on grounds of which there have been calls for its suspension.
The controversy has prompted the National Assembly to direct those in charge to make public the Certified True Copies of the Tax Reform Acts.
In addition to that, the National Assembly also launched an investigation into the allegations.
Amid all, the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele said the enforcement would go ahead as scheduled.
Oyedele declared this on Friday in Lagos to newsmen after meeting with President Bola Tinubu alongside other members of the tax team which includes the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacchaeus Adedeji, and the chairman of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee, Joseph Tegbe.
The tax expert stated that the enforcement from January 1, 2026 was cast in iron saying two of the laws were already in use.
“As you are already aware, there are four of those laws, and two of them have already commenced, and that’s the Nigerian Revenue Service Establishment Act and the Joint Revenue Service Establishment Act which commenced in June, 2025,” he said.
Before he added, “We welcome the statement by the National Assembly, House of Representatives committee today on the findings and the work around the allegations about alteration.
“The federal government is committed to working with the National Assembly if and when any action is required, and therefore the plan to commence the new law on the 1st of January 2026 will go ahead as planned on schedule, because these reforms are designed to provide relief to the Nigerian people.”
