The call by some Ghanaians in Ghana urging their authorities to deport all Nigerians in their country has drawn reaction from the federal government.

A video of some protesting Ghanaians, claiming the ways of Nigerians in their country are allegedly bad, and seeking the deportation of all Nigerians in the West-African country is currently trending.

The protest reignited the characteristic rivalry between nationals of the two English colonies as they engage in brickbats on social media.

The controversy has gotten the federal government of Nigeria talking through the chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

In a statement signed by Mr. Abdur-Rahman Balogun, director, media, publicity and Protocol unit, NIDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa disapproved the protesters’ claim that Nigerians are criminals, praising the Ghanaian authorities for the part they played in the matter.

“Nigerians are not criminals. They are good ambassadors wherever they find themselves while those bad ones should be fished out to face necessary sanctions.

“Ghana and Nigeria are like siamese twins. They are brothers and in the spirit of ECOWAS and regional integration should continue to live in peace like brothers,” the statement read partly.
