A final-year student of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia State, Nwachukwu Omiko while playing a football match in the school campus.
The incident happened on Wednesday on the university’s pitch, aka San Siro Pitch, as per multiple reports.
The deceased was a student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and was involved in a casual football match with fellow students when his death came.
“He collapsed in the course of the match, and was attended to by his fellow students who tried to revive him to no avail, and had to rush him to Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where he was confirmed dead,” sources narrated.
The institution’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Ubadire Agua, in a statement made available to newsmen described Omiko’s death as a “painful loss.”
