Five fraudster disguising as herbalists to swindle their victims have been arrested.
The suspects are: Akingbola Omotayo, Adeola Funsho Ogunrinde, Yahaya Amodu, Kubratu Babalola Olaitan (female), and Familola Sunday Olaitan.
They were apprehended on December 7 and 8, 2025, at their shrines in Osun and Lagos states.
This is according to a statement the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, released which has it that fake $3.4 million and €280,000 were found in their possession.
In the account of the incident posted on EFCC Facebook page, the anti-graft said the suspects allegedly swindled one Halima Sanni of N26m and many unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of providing spiritual cleansing that would lead to the enrichment of the victims.
For the phoney spiritual cleansing, EFCC narrated that the apprehended fraudsters would demand for money to perform the sacrifices, saying spell were cast on the victims to make them pliant.
“Investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly defrauded unsuspecting individuals of their legitimate earnings under the pretence of providing spiritual cleansing and solutions to different ailments.
“They also allegedly assured their victims of their powers to conjure various currency notes, which they claimed must be spiritually cleansed by a genie through sacrifices before being spent. They reportedly achieved this by hypnotising their victims into providing money for the sacrifices,” the statement read.
It continued: “The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
