Four pupils of a Qur’anic school in Kano State have reportedly died after eating food suspected to have been contaminated.
The victims, who were Almajiris attached to Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya’s school in Kadage Sharifai, Ungoggo Local Government Area of the state, were said to have fallen ill after consuming the suspected poisoned meal.
The National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu, confirmed the heartbreaking incident in a statement issued on Monday.
According to him, the affected pupils were rushed to the Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention after showing signs linked to suspected food poisoning.
However, the situation turned tragic as the four students reportedly died at the hospital on Sunday night, August 16, 2026.
“The students, however, reportedly died at the hospital on Sunday night, August 16th, 2026,” the statement revealed.
The statement did not disclose the type of food consumed by the pupils or the substance suspected to have caused the poisoning, leaving unanswered questions over the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Following the approval of the District Head (Dagaci) and the Divisional Police Officer, the remains of the deceased pupils were later buried.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
