A shocking family tragedy has rocked Ore community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, after police arrested a man, Samuel Akoade, for allegedly hacking his mother, Mrs Olufunke Akoade, to death.
The horrifying incident reportedly happened on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at about 5pm in the Powerline area of Ore, leaving residents in shock.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly attacked his mother with a machete, inflicting severe injuries on her body.
The victim was said to have been found in a pool of blood at her residence before the police were alerted.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command said Samuel had been arrested and taken into custody.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abayomi Jimoh, said officers from the Ore Division quickly moved to the scene after receiving a distress report.
He said the victim had already died when police arrived, adding that preliminary findings showed she suffered deep machete cuts.
A machete suspected to have been used in the deadly attack was recovered from the scene, while police operatives documented the area as part of their investigation.
The police spokesman disclosed that the suspect initially fled after the alleged attack but was later tracked down and arrested following efforts by security operatives.
The remains of Mrs Akoade have since been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect remains in police detention.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for further investigation.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has ordered a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the killing, promising that anyone found responsible would face the full weight of the law.
The police command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing crimes within their communities.
