Adetokunbo Fabamwo, the chief medical director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), says 35 per cent of nurses in the hospital have resigned from the facility.
Mr Fabamwo made this known on Thursday at the fifth anniversary and scientific conference of the retired nurse administrators healthcare initiative held at Alausa, Ikeja.
The professor of obstetrics and gynaecology said averagely he attended to four letters of resignation from nurses daily, saying the commonplace has made for shortage of nurses in the hospital.
His word, “Every day, I receive and sign between three to four resignation letters from nurses. As we speak, the nursing workforce in our facility has reduced by 35 per cent.”
He added that the hospital is in the process of recruiting new nurses having received Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s approval, “Though we have received approval of Mr Governor to employ their replacement, it is something that should be addressed.”
