The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, has been thrown into mourning following the death of a 300-level student, Oluyemi Benjamin Oluwadamilare, from complications linked to sickle cell disease.

Oluwadamilare, who was studying Plant Physiology and Crop Production (PPCP), reportedly died on Wednesday evening, October 28, 2026.

The university’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) announced his death in a statement posted on X on Thursday, describing the incident as a painful loss to the university community.

The union expressed condolences to his family, friends, coursemates and others who knew him, while praying for strength for those affected by his death.

“His passing is a painful loss to the FUNAAB community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, coursemates and all those who knew and loved him,” the statement read.

In a follow-up announcement on Friday, the SUG disclosed plans to hold a candlelight session in his honour.

The union invited students to gather at COPLANT by 6pm on Friday, October 30, to pay their last respects to their departed colleague.

The gathering is expected to provide an opportunity for students and members of the university community to honour his memory and stand in solidarity with his grieving family and friends.

The union concluded its announcement with a prayer for the peaceful repose of his soul.
