Gunmen have abducted a primary school teacher, Mrs Amina Hussaini, from her residence in Kuru community, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and demanded a staggering ₦50 million for her release.
Hussaini, who teaches at an LEA Primary School in the community, was reportedly seized on Tuesday while her husband was away in Lafia on an official assignment.
A family member, Suwaiba Abdullahi, confirmed the abduction during a telephone conversation with our reporter on Thursday, describing the situation as distressing for the family.
According to Abdullahi, the kidnappers contacted the family after taking the teacher away and demanded ₦50 million as ransom.
She said the family had been thrown into confusion over how to raise such a huge amount, adding that attempts to negotiate a reduction in the ransom had so far failed.
Abdullahi disclosed that when a relative acting as a mediator appealed to the kidnappers to lower their demand, they abruptly terminated the telephone conversation.
With the teacher still being held captive, the family has appealed to members of the public for financial assistance and intervention to secure her freedom.
The family also called on security agencies and the Nasarawa State Government to urgently intervene and ensure her safe and unconditional release.
The incident has reportedly been reported to the police.
However, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, said he had seen reports of the abduction circulating on social media and would make enquiries before providing further details.
