A farmer in Adamawa State has reportedly lost his left hand after a grazing dispute with a herdsman turned violent.
The victim, identified as Hammasumo Ali, was allegedly attacked with a machete while working on his farm in Nyashika, Gumti Ward, Toungo Local Government Area.
According to Toungo LGA Secretary of Information, Daniel Pogu Toungo, trouble started when Ali tried to stop a herdsman from allowing his cattle to stray into his farmland.
What began as an argument reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, with the herdsman allegedly attacking Ali with a machete and inflicting severe injuries that resulted in the loss of his left hand.
Ali was subsequently taken to hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
The incident prompted the Chairman of Toungo LGA, Hajiya Hauwa Guruja, to visit the injured farmer in hospital and sympathise with him over the attack.
The latest violence has again exposed the dangers surrounding recurring disputes between farmers and herders in parts of northern Nigeria, where clashes over grazing routes, farmland and access to resources have repeatedly led to injuries, deaths and destruction of property.
