A hit-and-run driver has caused the death of a serving police officer, Clement Yunan, in Gombe.

Attached to the State Police Command, Yunana, was an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

The melancholy event happened on Wednesday at around 5pm along Bauchi Road, opposite the Matrix Fueling Station in Tumfure, Akko Local Government Area of the state.

Report said the 50-year-old was knocked down in the course of crossing the road by an unidentified vehicle while the driver sped off, failing to offer any help to his victim.

“The Command received with deep sorrow the report of the fatal hit-and-run involving one of our own. ASP Clement Yunana was a dedicated officer attached to the Railway Police Outstation in Bajoga Division. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

“A full-scale investigation has been launched into the incident. Abdullahi appealed to members of the public for any useful information that could help identify the driver and vehicle involved.

“This is not just a tragic loss to the police force but also to the community he served with dedication. We are appealing to eyewitnesses or anyone with relevant information to assist us in ensuring justice is served,” the State Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi wrote in a statement he released.
