In the clip, opposing lawmakers engaged in fisticuffs throwing chairs and tables at each other. Okonoboh is seen vacating his seat on the podium after being asked to, by two lawmakers, without putting up any physical resistance.
On the surface, his failure to go physical like most others may be because of his respect for the office he was occupying.
But beneath, the man has challenges with his health, and it may have accounted for his composure and refusal to join the fray.
OrijoReporters in a previous report disclosed that Okonoboh sometime in 2015 underwent kidney surgery in an Indian hospital. It reported that one of his
kidneys was damaged, and removed.
The sacked Speaker in the report, was not helping himself as he was allegedly overworking his only kidney by regularly drinking high volume of energy drinks, which medical experts say increase risk of kidney damage due to its caffeine content.
Yesterday, Okonoboh’s replacement, Kabiru Adjoto, accused him of turning the State Assembly into a family affair.
Adjo alleged that his wife who works with Maggi Kitchen in Lagos but on leave of absence, and his three children three; Ofure, Rema, and the last born, Bobby J, enjoyed the paraphernalia of the office of Speaker.
He said, “We are 24 members but we were surprised that anything we discussed at the Executive Session, the wife will hear and start calling our wives to tell them what we discussed and they should tell their husbands not to do it.
“The wife uses the Speaker vehicle and convoy as if she is Mr. Speaker. The other day the wife and his son used the convoy to the NYSC camp and all policemen stood at attention for her thinking it was Mr. Speaker. That is desecration of the parliament.
“…He (Okonoboh) just came back from America where he said he visited eight states whereas he shut down the Assembly. We were not supposed to go for holiday but he shut the House because of his son’s graduation. He stopped us from working for Edo people.”
