Details have emerged with regard the deaths of three students of a private secondary school in in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, from thunderstorms while playing football.

The sad incident which occurred on Saturday involved nine students.

They alongside their other colleagues were practising on the school’s pitch in preparation for a competition when the sad twist happened.

It followed the completion of the training presided over by their coach, who had left the pitch but the boys stayed back to continue to practise when a rainfall accompanied by heavy winds and thunderstorms, sources said.

This medium gathered that the thunderstorms struck nine of them leaving them jerking and trembling with the alarm raised by others attracting some persons including teachers to the scene on a rescue mission.

According to report, the victims were rushed to a hospital in Awka where efforts to rescucitate them proved successful with six of them while the other three died.
