Professor Wole Soyinka has made it public what once transpired between him and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu over President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi.
Speaking at the 20th Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism Awards in Lagos on Monday, the nobel laureate said huge number of security personnel protecting Seyi once made him registered his displeasure at it to the NSA.
His communication with Ribadu, Soyinka said occurred after he saw the President’s son with plenty security operatives recently in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The scene, the 91-year-old stated left him shocked at what he considered an extravagant display of state security and prompted him to discuss the issue with the NSA.
“I was astonished, children must understand their place. They are not elected leaders, and they must not inherit the architecture of state power simply by proximity,” Soyinka declared.
He urged Tinubu to reconsider the security personnel attached to Seyi, adding that if a major insurgency were to break out, perhaps the President should ask Seyi to “go and handle it,” given the size of his escort — but added that “beyond the humour lies a serious matter of priority and fairness.”
