President Muhammadu Buhari has paid himself compliments for his role in the crisis-ridden elections, and saying he charged the electorate to take monetary inducement from politicians but vote according to the dictate of their consciences.

Buhari made this remark on Tuesday, in Abuja to the outgoing United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, at the State House, as per Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu’s report, titled, ‘Recent elections proof of nation’s voter vibrancy, maturity, says President Buhari.’

In it, Shehu quoted the President expressing satisfaction with how the election went, bringing the alleged success story down to himself and his administration monetary policy.

Qouting his principal, Shehu wrote, “With the currency change, there was no money to spread around but even then, I told voters to take the money and vote according to their consciences.”
