A 28-year-old widow, Tosin, has sparked outrage after accusing her late husband’s family of trying to throw her out of her home and seize his property just eight days after his death.
The shocking case went viral on Tuesday after activist Harrison Gwamnishu shared videos and allegations on his X handle, prompting the Lagos State Government to intervene. Authorities say the alleged perpetrator has now been arrested.
In one of the viral clips, Tosin’s father-in-law is seen padlocking the gate of the family house, apparently locking the grieving widow outside.
Sharing the footage, Gwamnishu wrote: “Standing with young widow TOSIN. This man here is Tosin’s father-in-law. See him padlocking the gate, locking Tosin outside.
“He has his own house. They are after properties and forgetting there are two children left behind. Tosin is now being threatened for going public.”
The activist said a petition would be submitted to the Lagos State Police Command while awaiting intervention from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
“Our demand is simple: In-laws move to your house and allow Tosin to mourn her late husband,” he said.
According to Gwamnishu, Tosin’s husband died on July 20, 2026. He alleged that shortly after the burial, the deceased’s parents, brother and sister-in-law moved into his residence at No. 8 Jumofak, Igbo Oluwo Estate, Koya Adeniran, Ikorodu.
He claimed they forced the widow and her two young sons to pack all their belongings into a single room, while some of the deceased’s possessions had already been shared among family members.
The activist further alleged that plans were underway to sell the late man’s car.
“This grieving widow is now living in fear for herself and her two children,” he said.
Gwamnishu appealed to the Lagos State Government, particularly the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, to protect Tosin and her children from intimidation and alleged attempts to deprive them of their late father’s inheritance.
“No widow should have to fight for dignity, shelter and justice just days after losing her husband,” he added.
Responding to the viral allegations, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency said it immediately contacted the widow after becoming aware of the case.
According to the agency, Tosin alleged she had suffered threats to her life, physical assault and intimidation following her husband’s death.
The agency said she had already reported the matter to the Owutu Police Division and that it immediately began working with investigators.
“Preliminary feedback from the Police confirms that the alleged perpetrator has been arrested and is currently in custody, while investigations continue,” the agency said.
It added that the Lagos State Government remains committed to protecting the widow and her two children and ensuring justice is served.
The agency also urged members of the public to continue reporting cases of domestic and sexual violence through its official channels.
