An official of the Independent Electoral Commission has died at the hands of gunmen in Delta State.
The assailants’ activities also caused various degrees of injuries to some National Youth Service Corps members, who were also election officials at Ukwani Local Government Area during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly polls.
The gunmen, as per the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Monday Tom, who gave the account , were irked by the election results, and in turn, vented their feelings on the electoral umpires, with gunshots, killing one INEC official and injuring some Corpers.
Tom’s actual word, “There were incidents of attack in Ukwani Local Government Area where one of us died on their way coming after the election.
“The gunmen opened fire at their bus and unfortunately killed one INEC official and injured the corps members.
“The corpers are now receiving treatment but we are planning on how to move the corps members who were injured to a hospital in Asaba.”
