It has emerged that the index case in Coronavirus disease in Nigeria, a 44-year-old Italian quarantined at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, Lagos attempted to run away from the facility.

The Italian, a consultant with Lafarge Cement Company was diagnosed with the deadly disease after falling sick on arrival from Italy. He was moved from Lafarge’s plant in Ewekoro to Lagos at the Mainland Hospital where he is in seclusion.
According to Punchng.com, the condition of the hospital is pitiable and the patient could not live with it causing him to attempt escape on Thursday.
“The patient wanted to run away yesterday (Thursday). The Italian man, who seems to be an engineer, was very angry that the room where he was kept was very hot.
“There is nothing there (inside the isolation ward) aside from bed and hospital locker. He almost ran away and is still threatening to do that,” a health worker working at the facility told the paper on condition anonymity.
The source was also quoted as saying that the hospital lacked any serious equipment to inspire hope and suggest the country has the medical wherewithal to tackle the disease.
