According to this report by The Nation, seventeen state governors are working busily in the secret against Oyegun.
Their grouse against the chairman was that he was allegedly not carrying them along in the running of the party. Instead, he was running APC with only seven of the twenty APC governors.
It mentioned the governors the chairman was doing things with as Governors Nasir El-Rufai, Abdullahi Ganduje, Mohammed Abubakar, Rochas Okorocha, Solomon Lalong, Yahaya Bello and Samuel Ortom.
“Ahead of the NEC meeting of APC next week, there is tension in the party. About 17 of the 24 governors are unhappy with the national chairman. They are plotting to withdraw their support for him, unless he carries all of them along.
“The 17 governors believe that Oyegun is romancing their seven colleagues because the APC National Chairman believes they are close to the President,” the paper quoted a source as saying.
It said politicians sympathetic to Oyegun’s cause believed former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole was backing the plot to remove the chairman so as to succeed him.
They said Oshiomhole’s loyalists had been lobbying party leaders ahead of the NEC meeting.
