A 34-year-old man, Saeed Saleh Gambazi, has been found dead hours after leaving his residence in Rikkos community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Gambazi reportedly left home on Friday evening but never returned, leaving his family worried after his phone became unreachable.
According to Daily Trust, from which Orijoreporter obtained the report, the deceased was later found abandoned around Bauchi Ring Road.
His remains were subsequently deposited at the Old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) morgue.
The circumstances surrounding the killing remained unclear, while the family said they were still struggling to understand why their son was targeted.
Saeed’s younger sister, Salifa Saleh Gambazi, said she became aware of the tragedy after calling her brother’s phone and an unknown person answered.
She said the caller told her to take heart, informing her that Saeed had been killed.
According to her, the person further said Saeed was stabbed in the back and died while being taken to the hospital.
Salifa said she was directed to the Anguwan Rukuba Police Post and later referred to the Nassarawa Police Division, from where the family was taken to the morgue to recover his body.
Saeed’s father, Saleh Abdu Gambazi, described his son as a peaceful, dedicated and focused man, saying his death had left the entire family traumatised.
He said the news was broken to him through his wife after she went to a neighbouring house where he was staying.
The grieving father said Saeed was calm and jovial, adding that the manner of his death had made the loss even more painful for the family.
His mother, Hajaratu Abubakar Aminu, also described the killing as tragic and blamed the perpetrators for what she called a cruel act.
She recalled that shortly before his death, she left Saeed at home boiling water for his bath while she went to visit a neighbour who was mourning.
She said she instructed him to lock the main entrance before leaving.
The family said it had yet to receive clear information about the identity of the killers or the motive for the attack.
They, however, said the police had assured them that efforts would continue until those responsible were arrested and brought to justice.
