The Kano State Government has expressed its readiness to conduct mass weddings for 1,020 indigent persons in one fell swoop.
The beneficiaries will be drawn from the 44 local government areas in the state, with the remainders at the discretion of Hisbah Board.
The latter’s Commandant, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa announced the mass wedding at a press briefing on Wednesday.
Daurawa said, prospectives would undergo various medical tests as conditions to qualify for the wedding.
According to him, “This time around the couples must pass through four different tests which include HIV test, pregnancy test, genotype and drug tests. We cannot consider anybody that doesn’t pass these tests. We are doing this to assist the couples to live peacefully and have happy marriages. But if someone is into drugs or has a particular illness, then there is a problem.”
