Panic erupted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Sunday after a fire broke out at Terminal 2, sending passengers and airport workers into a frenzy.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident, assuring the public that emergency responders had moved swiftly to contain the blaze.
In a statement, FAAN said no casualties or fatalities had been recorded, while its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was working to bring the situation under control.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,” the agency said.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation.
“There have been no reported casualties or loss of life. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
The latest incident comes months after another fire outbreak rocked Terminal 1 of the Lagos airport on February 23.
Two days after that incident, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Farouk Umar, disclosed that the fire severely disrupted the facility’s air-to-ground communication system, raising fresh concerns over safety and emergency preparedness at the country’s busiest airport.
