A bill to regulate the sale of animals and bar Lagosians from domesticating wild ones is being considered by the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The evacuation of a lion kept as pet by an Indian, a resident of the state last year at 229 Muri Okunola Street, Victoria Island ostensibly has bearing on the bill sponsored by Hon. Kehinde Joseph, the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture.
Entitled, “A Bill for Law to Regulate Ownership, Licensing, Care and Sale of Pets and Prohibit or Restrict Persons from Having Custody of Animals Dangerous to the Public and Where Permitted to License, Control and Regulate the Custody of Such Animals and for Other Connected Purposes’ it seeks to criminalize having lions, snake and other dangerous animals as pets.
