The Lagos State Government has appealed to youths aged 18 to 26 to enlist in the ongoing military recruitment exercise, saying it wants the state to meet its recruitment quota.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, made the appeal on Tuesday during a meeting with the 57 local government secretaries and representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee.

“We want a lot of our children between the ages of 18 and 26 to apply so that Lagos State can meet its quota again for this season,” she said.

The appeal came as the state government stepped up discussions on security, grassroots governance and preparations for the forthcoming elections.

Salu-Hundeyin urged local government secretaries to strengthen communication between their councils and the state government, stressing that they had a responsibility to monitor developments in their communities and report issues requiring urgent attention.

She said effective governance depended on identifying residents’ concerns, reviewing existing policies and making necessary adjustments where government interventions were not delivering the desired results.

The SSG added that the government remained committed to improving residents’ welfare and ensuring that its policies translated into better living conditions.

On security, she called on stakeholders to work together to maintain peace across Lagos, particularly ahead of the forthcoming elections.

“The state government has given a marching order that, as usual, more than ever before, Lagos must remain peaceful,” she said.

The Police Community Relations Committee was also invited to the meeting in recognition of its role in supporting security initiatives and promoting cooperation between the police and members of the public.

Salu-Hundeyin said the discussions were ultimately aimed at strengthening governance, improving security and ensuring a better quality of life for Lagos residents.
