Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has called for cancellation of the Saturday’s council election in the state citing alleged irregularities and disenfranchisement of voters.
Recall that Bucknor-Akerele was the state deputy governor while President Bola Tinubu helmed the state, and was impeached after both fell out.
Saturday’s elections held in the 20 LGAs and 37 local council development areas of the state were all won by the ruling All Progressives Congress candidates.
To Bucknor-Akerele, in an interview with Nigeria Info, the exercise was fraught with irregularities, malpractices and disenfranchisement, and the results should not stand.
“I have been to my own unit, my name is not there. I am calling for the cancellation of this election because there’s a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party, because otherwise, why is it that people are not able to vote in their units?
“There is a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party. Many people are not able to vote because they have completely disrupted all the polling units,” she alleged.
