Twenty-four hours to the Lagos State local government elections across its 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), Lagosians have been urged to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sustain the dividends of democracy and ongoing infrastructural development in the state.
This appeal was made by a prominent APC chieftain, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, who is also the Convener and Apex Leader of the Progressives Action Forum (PAF).
He spoke at a press conference held Wednesday at the Onikan Youth Centre, Lagos.
Chief Onitiri called on all residents—men, women, the elderly, youth, market leaders, transport unions, professionals, artisans, and others—to come out en masse and vote for the APC.
The conference, themed “Strengthening Our Grassroots, Advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda”, was attended by the Forum’s State Coordinator, Hon. Shola Opeyemi Taiwo, alongside members, party faithful, youth leaders, and other stakeholders.
He emphasized that the people’s votes are their voices and an endorsement of progress and infrastructural development, especially at the grassroots level.
“We are gathered here today with great purpose, determination, and unshakeable loyalty to our great party—the APC—to reaffirm our commitment to securing an overwhelming victory in the forthcoming Local Government and LCDA elections scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2025,” Onitiri declared.
Highlighting the significance of the local council polls, Onitiri noted, “It is important to recognize the critical role of local governments in Nigeria’s democratic structure. As the third tier of government, it is closest to the people and directly impacts their lives—from education and healthcare to road infrastructure, market regulation, youth engagement, women empowerment, waste management, and even security.”
He stressed that as a grassroots-oriented group, the Progressives Action Forum understands that development must be people-driven and initiated from the bottom up.
“That is why we are taking these elections seriously. They are not just about political control; they are about empowering our people, deepening democracy, and consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he added.
Onitiri also paid tribute to the Lagos State APC leadership, describing it as “capable, wise, and strategic,” under the guidance of Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.
He praised the peaceful and democratic conduct of the APC primaries across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs, saying the process reflected the party’s strong internal structure and organizational capacity.
According to him, the primaries produced credible, experienced, and trustworthy candidates capable of delivering the party’s vision at the grassroots.
“The level of preparedness—from campaign strategy and logistics to party unity and voter outreach—demonstrates that our great party is on course for a clean sweep across the state,” he said.
Onitiri acknowledged the competitive nature of the primaries and called on aspirants who were not successful to remain loyal to the party.
“As with every democratic process, multiple aspirants will naturally vie for office. But only one candidate can emerge per position. I urge those who didn’t win to remain committed to the party. Now is the time to show character, maturity, and loyalty,” he said.
He concluded by urging all APC members and supporters not to take the upcoming election lightly, reiterating the importance of full participation to ensure victory at the polls.
