A lecturer with Ekiti State University, Dr Ayinde Olukayode who stood rape trial has finally been acquitted of the charge.

Olukayode had been facing prosecution over claim that he raped a 12-year-old since March 7, 2022 when he was brought to court.

The 55-year-old was on Friday cleared by Justice Adekunle Adeleye of an Ado-Ekiti High Court on grounds that the prosecution was unable to prove the merit of its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Leading up to the verdict, the defendant’s wife, Eunice Olabisi’s testified that the husband was not in position to have sex.

She said, the Don was battling erectile dysfunction at the time the rape slur came up and incapable of performing in the other room.

Father of the so-called victim also absolved the Don.

The victim had reported the matter to Ekiti State Sexual Referral Centre, initially to her teacher and later to her principal, after the state agency came to her school for sensitisation on issues such as that.

All medical examination carried out pointed to the fact that her hymen had been broken, and there was then a fresh injury on her genital.
