Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as Mama G, has opened up on why she is repeatedly cast as witches, wicked mothers and villains in Nigerian movies.
The screen legend revealed that her famous “bad girl” roles are not just for entertainment but serve a deeper purpose — to expose evil, injustice and the consequences of wrongdoing.
Ozokwo made the revelation during a livestream interview with Nigerian content creator Carter Efe on Monday, after she was asked why filmmakers often choose her for witchcraft-related characters.
The actress said she believes the roles are part of a divine assignment to use her talent to teach moral lessons.
“God carved that niche for me to be able to, I think, expose every ill. God created me to expose it,” she said.
Mama G, whose portrayal of wicked characters has made her one of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces, said she has always hated injustice, violence and conflict.
“I hate injustice. I hate war. I hate anything that shows rancour,” she added.
The actress explained that whenever she takes on villainous roles, she does so with the aim of showing viewers the dangers of embracing evil and the importance of making the right choices.
“So when He gave me that kind of role, I try to bring out everything I know about it, that if you are taking part in any of them, you will be careful and know the end thereof,” she said.
According to Ozokwo, her performances are designed to remind audiences that every action has consequences.
“You know what will happen to you if you live a terrible life. And you know what you gain if you are a good person,” she said.
For decades, Mama G has remained one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actresses, earning a reputation for her powerful performances as strict mothers, wicked relatives and supernatural characters.
