A newlywed woman, Mrs Sara Innocent, has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command after allegedly stabbing her husband, Innocent Nwaọjị, to death during a domestic dispute.

The bloody incident occurred on Saturday night at Umuokereke Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state, barely eight months after the couple reportedly got married.

The police said the victim was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife during a misunderstanding between the couple.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, the incident was reported at the Ohuru Isimiri Police Divisional Headquarters on August 9, a day after it happened.

Chinaka said the victim was rushed to a hospital following the stabbing but was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

She said the police had visited the scene of the incident, while the deceased’s remains had been deposited at a morgue for autopsy.

The suspect, she added, remains in police custody as detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department continue with a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the husband’s death.

The tragedy has thrown the couple’s short-lived marriage into shock, with the fatal confrontation bringing their relationship to a tragic end barely eight months after they reportedly tied the knot in December 2025.

Police have yet to disclose what triggered the domestic dispute that allegedly preceded the stabbing.
