A 25-year-old man arraigned on incest charge yesterday has pleaded guilty to the charge, adding that ‘it was a mistake’.
The suspect, Shamsu Isa (not the one pictured), who impregnated his elder sister, Naima Isa, 27, yesterday told a Kano magistrate court that he erred, and regretted his action.
The prosecutor said the affair between Shamsu and Naima, which runs afoul of the law, came to the fore after the latter got pregnant and it was reported to the police by the Ward Head of the Takalmawa Quarters where the siblings live.
“On July 4, 2014, the Ward Head of Takalmawa Quarters reported to the police that, Shamsu Isa was having sexual intercourse with his elder sister, and has impregnated her.”
He said the wilder implication of Shamsu’s action was that ‘he committed incest contrary to section 390 of the Penal Code Law’ adding that Naima ‘is believed to have a weak mind’.
And when the charge was read to Isa he admitted his guilt: ‘’The allegation levelled against me is true. All that had been read against me, is true, it was a mistake, I mistakenly impregnated her,” he explained.
While delivering her ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Ummi Sani Kurawa, ordered that, Shamsu be remanded in prison custody, and adjourned the matter to August 4, for mention.
