A man has been arrested in Lagos after allegedly stealing a Toyota Tundra truck from a car dealership in the Victoria Garden City (VGC) area and embarking on a dangerous escape that reportedly left several people injured.

The suspect was said to have posed as a prospective buyer before requesting a test drive of the vehicle on Monday, October 12, 2026.

According to reports circulating on social media, he allegedly collected the keys, locked the truck’s doors and sped off without permission from the dealership.

During the escape, the suspect reportedly damaged security equipment at the entrance of VGC and hit a security officer before driving towards the Chevron and Lekki-Ajah axis.

He was subsequently accused of ramming into several vehicles and hitting pedestrians, including dispatch riders, as he attempted to evade pursuit.

An account shared by an X user, @abefe_survival, alleged that the driver continued speeding despite attempts by people along the route to stop him by placing tyres and stones on the road.

The chase reportedly ended around Ajiran, where the truck plunged into a water-filled ditch.

Videos circulating online showed the damaged black Toyota Tundra partly submerged in water, while residents dragged the suspect out and assaulted him before he was handed over to the authorities.

Some online reports claimed that four dispatch riders were killed during the incident. However, the reported death toll has not been independently confirmed.

As of Tuesday, October 13, the Lagos State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement confirming the full circumstances of the incident or the number of casualties.

The suspect’s identity and whether he had been formally charged were also not immediately known.

The incident has sparked concerns over road safety and the dangers posed by fleeing drivers, particularly along the busy Lekki-Ajah corridor.

Further details are expected as the police investigate the alleged theft and the reported casualties.
