A man, Simon Maduekwe, has died in Lagos of suspected heart attack on sighting political thugs in his apartment.

The deceased lived at Fatomi Crescent, Off Bajulaiye Compound, Shomolu.

As per Punchng, citing late Maduekwe’s son, Chuka, the sad incident happened during the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, with a polling unit within the view of the deceased’s residence.

The 68-year-old had reportedly voted for his candidate amid threat by political louts to deal ruthlessly with anyone, who failed to cast vote for their preferred choice.

He was said to have retired home when a resident of the building he occupied, caught capturing the thugs with mobile phone ran to his apartment to take cover and escape the thugs who were on the his heels.

An unfortunate twist succeeded the thugs’ invasion of Mr Maduekwe’s apartment.

“When they(thugs) sighted the guy, they started chasing him, so he ran straight into our compound, and into our apartment. My dad was standing at the door and as the guy and the thugs ran towards him, he collapsed.

“Immediately, we tried to revive him but couldn’t, so, we rushed him to the Somolu General Hospital and a nurse confirmed to us that he was dead. My dad had high blood pressure and has not been doing business for over a year as we have been doing all to keep him alive but he died because of the incident during the election,” the paper quoted distraught Chuka as saying.
