A first year student of Microbiology in the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Mercy Olamide Afolaranmi, has committed suicide by consuming rat poison mixed with battery water.

Sixteen-year-old Mercy killed herself on Thursday at her off-campus residence at Sabo area of Ile-Ife following her poor academic performance culminating in poor grade .
“Above all other things, I just wanna see God, see what He looks like, speak with Him face to face. I don’t wanna miss heaven. LORD HELP ME,” the deceased posted on October 10 on her Facebook page days before killing herself.
Report said Late Mercy fell into deep depression after she scored ‘E’ in CHM101, a course reportedly dreaded by year one students in the science and technology related faculties.
