A pastor and three other men have been arrested in Ogun State over an alleged plot to use a human skull for money rituals.

The suspects, identified as Oyenekan Oluwaseyi, a pastor with Christ Liberty Evangelism Church, Rosco, Iyana Iyesi, Ota; Ibrahim Agbowewe, 30; Suleiman Ogunbunmi, 40; and Gafari Akinsanya, 57, were arrested in the Saje area of Abeokuta.

The arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public, who reportedly alerted the police to the suspects’ activities.

Police operatives subsequently moved in and arrested the four men, recovering a human skull and other items allegedly connected to the planned ritual.

Items reportedly recovered included a large calabash, a black Toyota Camry car and a live ram.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer at the time, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspects had allegedly admitted that they wanted to use the human remains for money rituals and blessings.

“We arrested the four of them. They have since confessed that they wanted to use the head for blessings and money rituals,” she was quoted as saying.

A separate report also alleged that the pastor told investigators that the skull was intended for preparing money rituals for clients.

However, the available reports did not establish where the skull came from, who it belonged to or how it was obtained.

The incident, reported in October 2023, sparked concerns over the alleged use of human remains for ritual purposes.
