Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has thrown its weight behind suspended N8,000 palliatives proposed by Federal Government for seriously poor Nigerians.
Following oil subsidy removal, inflation has been on the rise pushing many Nigerians to further poverty to which the federal government earlier proposed N8,000 each for 12m Nigerians in intense poverty to palliate their situation, a programme that is currently under review after it sparked widespread condemnation, mostly for the manner it was going to be disbursed and smallness.
To Sule, the sum is big enough.
The governor asserted this in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday where he justified his position with reference to the immediate past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s similar palliatives.
His word, “We were sharing only N5,000 and believe me there were so many people that were waiting for that N5,000 every month. Indeed, there were some communities that were able to do some kind of contributions and they were able to do a lot in their various communities.
“So, N8,000 may not be so much money to some people, but it is a lot to so many other people who are from very poor families that don’t see N8,000 every month. So, the only thing is that let us identify those families.”
