Some residents of Kano on Saturday took to streets in the State to protest against Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS’ proposal to dislodge the military junta in Niger and reinstall deposed President Mohamed Bazoum by military action.

The protesters expressed their disapproval at the apparent decision of ECOWAS to go to war with the Nigerien coupists.

Waving Nigerien flags and bearing placards and chanting anti-military action songs they walked around the metropolis.

Some of the placards read: ‘War against Niger is injustice’. ‘It is the handiwork of America’. ‘It is the handiwork of Westerners’. ‘It is Islam that we want’. ‘It is justice that we want’. ‘Niger is ours’”.

The protesters also chanted, “Nigeriens are our brothers, as well as our family members.

“Niger is ours, we don’t want war; war against Niger is injustice, a plot by the Western forces.”
