A Nigerian, Robinson Agbonifoayetan, has been jailed for three years in the UK for swindling more than £300,000(N93.4m) from two women who thought he was an American diplomat.
Agbonifoayetan (pictured) had posed as a diplomat called Christopher Williams and used a forged United Nations diplomatic card(right) to collect money from two women who he told that a marine officer called General James Krulak (in one case) and General James Raul (in the other) wanted to move to the UK and marry them.
His victims are in their 60s and were both looking for companionship.
The 32-year-old, who resides in Welling, south east London, later had series of separate meetings with his victims in London where he convinced them to hand over their retirement money to him.
One of them subsequently transferred around £260,000(N80.9m) into Ghanaian bank accounts, using up her life savings, pawning jewellery, selling her car and taking out loans to make the payments.
She was told it was for the transportation and protection of a box allegedly containing a retirement fund of £8.5million.
The other became suspicious and she contacted police officers.
Agbonifoayetan was arrested, prosecuted and last Thursday at Isleworth Crown Court, he was jailed for three years.
