The Federal Government said there’s an increase in Nigerians doing away with their memberships of the country.

The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, stated this on Thursday at the 64th session of the State House Ministerial briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Belgore said, 150 Nigerians renounced their citizenship between 2006 to 2021.

However 2022, recorded a rise, with 159 Nigerians renounced their citizenships.

In his own remarks, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, attributed the massive emigration from the country to search for greener pastures, saying it accounted for high demands for passports.

The minister added that in 2022, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) issued the highest number of passport booklets totaling 1,899,683 in over seven years.
