The Federal Government said there’s a dearth of money in Nigeria.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu made this known at the 30th Annual Development Forum organised by Life Above Poverty Alleviation in Abuja with the theme, “The role of non-state actors in national development: A case study of LAPO.”

Bagudu who was represented by the ministry’s Director of International Cooperation, Dr. Sampson Ebimaro said while the country is in dire financial straits, her population is experiencing upward trajectory.

Ebimaro said due to the prevailing paucity of funds, paying workers’ salaries by government is a struggle, saying, “Government faces enormous challenges especially now; the government is facing a revenue deficit. There is no money anywhere in the country; the government is just managing to pay salaries.”

He went on to pay tribute to Non-State Actors, particularly LAPO for their contribution to the economy, “With millions of beneficiaries and a full-time staff of 10,212, these institutions and others within the LAPO system have made immense contributions to national development. This paper is expected to highlight the over N1.2 trillion LAPO Microfinance Bank has contributed to female owners of micro and small businesses.”
