Senator Shehu Sanni said there is a push by political stakeholders of Northern extraction to ensure one of them is the next Senate President.

The chief cause of their effort, as per Sanni, who formerly represented Kaduna Central in the Red Chamber, was to checkmate the Presidency under Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He communicated this by a tweet on his Twitter handle.

“The Northerners who supported to the throne are now saying they want the Senate Presidency in order to Checkmate him. It’s a good political strategy. But it’s like being in love and also being in doubt & living in fear.True love supposed to be blind.waju to the throne are now saying they want the Senate Presidency in order to Checkmate him. It’s a good political strategy. But it’s like being in love and also being in doubt & living in fear.True love supposed to be blind,” the activist-cum-politician wrote.

Previously, reports in general circulation said Tinubu’s choice is Senator Godswill Akpabio with former Governor of Zamfara State and senator-elect, Abdul’Aziz Yari, also among those eyeing the exalted seat.

The ex-governor, a ‘newcomer’ to the Senate, has been making a case for the North, claiming the region richly deserved the country’s number-three position.

“Everyone knows the role that we played, despite the fact that other people are thinking we have our own. But we voted on the party line, which gave the APC the leeway to grab the presidency again.

“Therefore, we’re saying the party should do the right thing. And those that are going around saying ‘Muslim-Christian,’ should be very careful. Our education in politics is more than that now.

“They should not overheat the polity of the party with religion. If the APC goes with religion, people in northern Nigeria that did the real voting, they’ll be annoyed and they will lose hope and confidence in the APC. And that’s the truth of the matter,” Yari told newsmen after acquainting President Muhamadu Buhari with his candidature.
