Suspended Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa-Ari has pushed back at report of receiving financial inducement from the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the just-concluded poll, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani.

The latter while the collation of the results was ongoing was announced winner by Yunusa-Ari in usurpation of the mandate of the Returning Officer much to the displeasure of the Independent National Electoral Commission that overruled him, and in turn declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri as winner.

As per the contradictory report of The Nation, the embattled REC on Tuesday was not arrested but turned himself in to the police, with an unnamed senator in his company.

Earlier on that day, Yunusa-Ari denied any wrongdoing, dismissing also allegation of receiving N2bn from Binani in an interview he granted BBC Hausa Service.

His remark; “I don’t have the papers with me here but both in the main and supplementary elections, Binani scored 428,173 while Fintiri got 422,303 votes.

“I have no regrets at all as I acted under the law; it is the law that warranted what I did and it shall absolve me.

“I never demanded any gratification from either of Binani or Fintiri. None of the duo sent anything to me; if they had done so, by now they will be demanding their money back.”
