A reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority, Benin, Mr Lawrence Okojie, after a long day at work was shot dead by gunmen on his way home.

The tragic incident happened on Saturday night around Ogunola Junction, off Siluko Road, Benin, the Edo State capital.

The deceased according to News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, was dropped off by NTA staff bus at Ogunola Junction around 8:00p.m and called his wife on phone to inform her that he was on his way home.

However, it said his wife raised alarm after she could not reach him on phone after several attempts. A search party later discovered his corpse with gunshot wounds in a morgue in Benin on Sunday night.

The report says one person had been arrested in connection with the killing.

Meanwhile the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the gruesome killing of Okojie in a statement its released on Monday.

The union called on the police to fish out the perpetrator.

The statement reads in part, “We commiserate with his young family and the management and staff of the Benin Centre of the Nigerian Television Authority where he worked. He was a humble, hardworking and committed member of the Union who took his job very seriously.
“The Union is calling on police and all security agencies to fish out the killers of this young man whose life have been cut short leaving his family in anguish.”
