A pall of gloom has descended on the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ FCT branch, following the deaths of two of its members, Chris Edoga of Radio Nigeria and Olajide Fashikun, publisher of GongNews, an online tabloid.
Before the duo’s deaths in different circumstances, the union was already in mourning mood over the demise of another of its member, Grace Nwodo, aka Madam Waka in auto crash.
While Fashikun died on Sunday after undergoing surgery days back, Edoga was a victim of an armed robbery attack at his residence in Gwagwalada area of Abuja.
In a condolence released by NUJ secretary, Ochiaka Ugwu, on behalf of the Council’s chairman, it reads in part: “The deaths are troubling and leave profound sadness. I condole with our colleagues and the families of the deceased. At a time such as this, I urge all of us to be prayerful and take our personal health and security seriously especially as the general elections draw closer.”
