The federal government said the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stopped assigning corps members to states considered “very unsafe.”

Some serving corps members have suffered kidnapping prompting widespread calls for the jettison of the programme.

Speaking against the backdrop of the insecurity situation, Minister of Youth, Jamila Ibrahim, in an interview she granted Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said in a safety precaution NYSC is no longer deploying prospective corps members to states that are hotbed of abductions.

“As an immediate intervention of the government and the NYSC as an agency, we have stopped posting corps members to the very unsafe states.

“We have been doing it in the past. There are states we have not been posting corps members to, to ensure their safety,” Ibrahim said.
