Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), has thrown further light into the killing of its zookeeper, Babaji Daule.

Daule, a veterinary technician in the employ of OOPL for ten years was killed by a lion on Saturday while feeding the big cat.

The Bauchi-born’s death made the headlines at the weekend.

The employer of the 35-year-old zookeeper said his death was self-inflicted, attributing it to negligence.

It said it happened while some guests arrived after the park’s closing hour.

In the report, Daule deferred to the guests, and met his death in the course of feeding the lion in its inner enclosure.

“The zookeeper, feeling comfortable with the animal, left the safety gate open and proceeded to feed the lion. He was attacked and killed on the spot.

“To prevent further mutilation of the body, the animal was put down immediately by personnel of the park.

“It is important to state that this activity fell completely outside the standard feeding routine of the park.

“Investigations have begun, and the matter has since been reported to the police for their investigation,” the statement read in part.
