Ogun State Governor, Dapo

Ogun government said any house in the state found without a toilet for residents would be confiscated by it.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, stated this in an interview with Punchng where he said of the government’s resolve to stamp out open defecation.

“We started the campaign on open defecation, and this started last year. It’s not a matter of forcing people to comply. In line with the laws, we are making it public again; anyone who has a house without a toilet will forfeit it to the government.

“We give you a period of compliance to make sure you convert one of the rooms to a toilet, and if you refuse to do it, it means you don’t need the house. The law permits us to take over such a house. It is in the public interest, so you don’t endanger the lives of the people living in the community,” Oresanya told the publication.

The Commissioner reportedly said further, “When we talk about vision, it is about making Ogun State the cleanest state in Nigeria, and we are doing everything possible to achieve that.”
